Is Fashion Your Addiction?

One of fave movies, and my ultimate favorite part!! Is there really people out there like this? They can't live without buying something? And if so.... is there meetings?? I totally know a few people that need to attend. My love for fashion is not quite there yet! (Prayfully it never will be lol)
Favorite quote from this movie: "When I shop, the world gets better, and the world is better, but then it's not, and I need to do it again"

I.am. clothing predictions

The sensational pop group The Black Eye Peas are all about risk. Every fashion statement they make are both outrageous, yet trendy. One of my fav of the group is Wil.i.Am! Loved him since day one from his fashion statements, to his music, and his crazy hair(lol). Although I Am Clothing launched in 2005, I believe it's time for a re-launch. Will is very hot right now, and un-like 2005 men are taking more risk! I think it'll be dynamic, and far from original (What me likey!). Andre 3000 launched his line a few years ago, and it did excellent. His trends were copied everywhere! men with cardigan sweaters, and more casual dressing than "street" and why won't the same thing happen for Will.i.Am? He's very confident in everything I've seen him wear, I was so amazed when watching Usher's new video "OMG" and saw Will.i.Am with Harem pants on.... And they actually looked great! It's also shown that when celebrity men come out with their own fashion line, guys are more influential to wear them, and support them. Such male celebrities; Steve Harvey, 50 cent, Snoop Dogg, and Justin Timberlake have all came out with clothing lines that represent their taste of fashion. And because men have some of the same style as most of these male celebs they buy them. I am a firm believer that the same thing will happen to Will.i.Am with his rocking clothing line: I.am. clothing. FACT: Will.I.Am was former student of L.A.'s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, he revealed that he had spent over four years working on the line, in between hectic touring schedules. "I.Am clothing aims to fill the gap created in an industry where mass production consumes each person's need for individuality," says will.i.am. The range is described as high-end streetwear it consists of blazers, shirts, waistcoats, skirts, pants, and scarves, all incorporating the funk of will.i.am's music."(tasty combo!)If interested to see some of the clothes from Will's line go to http://www.iamclothing.net to see for yourself! Thanks Will.i.am for thinking out of the box, and continuing to give us great music, and great style!
*******Do you know any other male celebs, that have great fashion sense? Email me and explain why and I'll do a blog entry on them. Until next time Ciao!! :)

J'adore SPRING!!!

Yaaay!!! Spring is finally here, and i couldn't be more excited!! Why do you ask? Because of the trends that men, and female will try, and hopefully succeed with wearing! What trend do I think is going to be a major must this season? First I think we will see a lot of people in Denim shirts they're really nice with linen pants, high waist skirts, and shorts. Needless to say I advised people not to wear denim tops, with denim bottoms. Example? If wearing a denim shirt either button up or maybe a pull over shirt, try something different with it, something out of the box. Try a vibrant color for your bottoms, whether there pants, skirt, or even tights! Don't be scared to try something different. I also love spring jackets, it's something about them that can make your outfit pop with originality a store where I'm in love with all their jackets is H&M and the color of the hour there is tickle me shades of pink, and different shades of beige. Next on the list is shoes! The shoes that are in full effect are the 1950's men inspired dress shoes.... I love how creative females are today because I see these shoes with Capri shorts, skinny leg jeans, and even tights. And they look great! You can find these fashion-forward "casual" shoes at JCPenny's new line called ; Olsenboye prensents'Parachute' Oxford

Lastly for your spring forecast I see rain boots, you know what they say "April Showers, bring May flowers" So before we get to the summer, and all it's fun, we have to dress for the weather, but that doesn't mean not dressed to kill. A website i love to go to and to see there various styles of rain boots is http://www.dllrainwear.com they have a wide selection of rain boots for all ages, and all genres of fashion such as rocker rain boots, pretty in pink inspired, and flower power. And there boots are really affordable.

I hope my prediction of spring wear is helpful, if you have any question or comments, don't be shy send me a e-mail.... yes I'll respond until next time Ciao!

Harem Pants, where will this trend take us?

Will Harem Pants be a fashion over-kill or will fashion trend fans "do it up big" this summer with the sleek, out-of-the-ordinary, complicated pants? Where did they come from? What are the prediction of these pants? Well ladies I've done my research and I'm hear to give you the scoop on these "fashion forward" pants.

Harem pants trend can be traced back nearly 2,000 years to traditional garments worn in western and southwestern Asia. These pants were known by many names, depending on their region. They can also be warn both by men, and women. (Remember Aladdin??) Some names for the style of pants are salwar, shalavar, or shalvaar. In Persian, the term literally means pants, as it is the Persians who first developed the pants as a form of garment. Modern versions of the salvars worn by females had slits on the sides up to the waistline. Which looks like the garment that belly dancers when performing. A key example of how FASHION ALWAYS RECYCLE IT'S SELF! These pants were worn for parties, and social functions only. In the western culture, these baggy pants were introduced as "bloomers" and "Turkish" trousers in the 1800. They were marketed as a form of women's dress that would allow for an active lifestyle without compromising a woman's decency, but they didn't catch on and were drooped by western society. AGAIN! They tired to reintroduced the pants in the 1900 by a French designer name Paul Poiret, but like before the trend failed as well. They were just worn as women's active sport pants. Not until 1980 did we see the effect that Harem pants had on the fashion world, and was introduced to the mainstream in MC Hammer's Can't touch this video. These pants then were also known as parachute pants, and were worn throughout the 80's. They disappeared in the 90's but now in the new decade are reappearing, and with a BANG. Celebs such as Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Steffani, and Rihanna are apart of this Harem pants phenomenon, and looks great in them. My PREDICTION for Spring/Summer 2010 is seeing a lot more of these chic pants. And not just for a night out on the town anymore. I'm seeing them with Flat sandals (dressed down) as well as heels, and dressy boots, I also see different prints such as zebra, cheetah, and stripes becoming pretty popular, well until all this snow has dissapered and the sun comes out, we shall see what the future holds. It's amazing how the fashion world can take ideas from the past, and make them into something spectacular.... I wonder what will happen to bonnets in about 4 years (lol) CIAO!

Model Pioneer....Naomi Sims

Ever since I can remember being in elementary, and middle school, black History month has been a very BIG DEAL. Although I attend an HBCU, it doesn't feel the same with the enthusiasm, and knowledge that I received in grade school. Their isn't even any information on black pioneers to inspire us on our history. I know about Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks. But is their any pioneers that came from fashion?? Well LADIES AND GENTS, I'm writing to inform you of someone that is (capital)F-I-E-R-C-E! I think of her as an FASHIONISTA.
Naomi Sims, born March 30, 1948 the first black model on the cover of Ladies' Home Journal in Nov. 1968, during the black is beautiful movement. She moved on to designing collections of wigs and cosmetics called The Naomi Sims Collections for black women. She is the author of five books on health, beauty, and success. Born in Oxford, Mississippi and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa, she attended The Fashion Institute of Technology and New York University, Sims became one of the first successful black model while still in her teens, and achieved worldwide recognition from the late 1960's into the early 70's.

DID YOU KNOW? Hollywood took an interest in Sims in 1972 and offered her the title role Cleopatra Jones, but when she read the script, she was applaud by the racist portrayal of blacks in the movie, and turned it down.

Naomi Sims died of breast cancer on August 1, 2009, age 61, in Newark, New Jersey. She is survived by her son Bob Findlay, and granddaughter, and her sister Betty Sims.
Although she passed, her spirit lives on with the faces of Tyra,Naomi, and Iman
her fierce walk, unforgettable face, and loving smile, Sims has blessed the world(CLASSIC MODELS) with her presence......
That's all i have today, but if you have any questions feel free to email me @ Christinjhnsn@yahoo.com THANKS :)

Green.... The New Color of Recycling, and Fashion?

Retail Stores are in rare form Ladies, and Gents!!! Winter clothes are getting sold at low prices, and shipments of Spring clothes are coming in slowly but surely. And while looking through windows of H&m, Macy's, and looking at the accessory themes at New York & Co., and Forever 21. All that I see is.... Green. I know you think Green and think "Gross Oscar the Grouch"?? But this green is nowhere near MEAN. The shade of green I think will be in full effect this summer is (drum roll): Kelly Green. A marvelous color that has definitely been in and out of the fashion spotlight for years, but this time around I think this color will do wonders for all-in-one short jumpsuits, summer dresses, linen pants, summer sandals, classic, and EDGY heels and also evening wear such as cocktail dresses. Designers are also using all shades of vibrant greens for attention of the audience and their crazed fans of their clothing. Does this movement of green have anything to do with "Going Green"?? If so I'm totally psyched about fashion, and the environment going hand-in-hand agreeing that we NEED a better, cleaner WORLD. Yes, their is some organizations such as GreenFashion, but WE NEED MORE!!! Fashion magazines, runaway shows, and more designer's recycling items to make clothes, or fancy pocketbooks, or wallets!
We also need to enforce that WE do have ecological problems on our planet, and it's up to us to conserve our natural resources.I remember reading Al Gore's quote in 2007 stating "The planet is in distress and all of the attention is on Paris Hilton." Be that as it may, Gore is totally right. But that's what appeals to us as a younger generation. So if we can "mesh" these 2 ideas together FASHION & PROJECT GREEN. We might have something that will reach millions!!
Maybe it's a way we can enforce what Global Warming is doing to our environment, as well as be Fashion Forward?? Mm mm.... interesting thought I must say.
Comments on this subject are definitely A MUST. let me know how you feel about this concern, and what you think we can do to combining the 2 factors. Until then PEACE
